In 1995 Markus completed his Commercial College KVS in Schaffhausen. He accomplished the programme for Active Asset Management at HSG University of St. Gallen.

Markus holds a Dual MBA degree from IMD (Lausanne, Switzerland) and CKGSB (Beijing, China) and a diploma in Financial Strategy, University of Oxford (Saïd Business School).

He worked for SBV Schweizerischer Bankverein followed by UBS Warburg.

In 2002 Markus joined GAFM AG Global Asset- and Fundsmanagement responsible for the Middle Eastern market.

From 1996 to 2000 he served as a State Senator of the Canton of Schaffhausen. After 2007 Markus held senior positions with Dexia Private Bank (Switzerland) AG in Bahrain, Euram Bank (United Arab Emirates), UBS AG (Singapore), EFG Bank (Switzerland) and Bank J. Safra Sarasin AG (Switzerland).
